Academic background and professional career

Heinrich Honsell is German as well as Austrian. He became a Professor in Munich and lectured also at the Universities of Bielefeld and Salzburg. Until his retirement, he held the chair of Swiss and European Private Law at the University of Zurich. Today he is Honorary Professor of Corporate and Economic Law at the University of Salzburg. In 2015 the University of Vienna awarded him an honorary doctorate in recognition of his outstanding and wideranging academic achievements. 

He has been of counsel to Rutschmann Schwaibold Partner since 2007.

 

Preferred areas of practice

Heinrich Honsell’s preferred legal fields are private law, corporate law, insurance law and international arbitration. He has written about twenty books and in excess of a hundred articles on Swiss, German, Austrian and European law. He is one of the chief editors and initiators of the Basel Commentaries on the Swiss Civil Code and on the Swiss Code of Obligations. Further information is available under www.honsell.at
