Dr. Matthias Schwaibold

Academic background and professional career

Matthias Schwaibold studied law and was a research assistant at the University of Zurich. After finishing his doctoral thesis, he joined a law office in Zurich which specialized in business and media law. Following further studies in Germany, he became partner in 1991. In 2001 Matthias Schwaibold was a founding partner of our law firm. For many years he was an alternate judge at the District Court of Zurich and rendered numerous judgments in both civil and criminal cases.

Matthias Schwaibold currently gives lectures on information and media law at the University of St. Gallen.

Matthias Schwaibold is the author of numerous publications in his fields. He is co-author of important commentaries on law, particularly the Basel Commentaries on the Swiss Civil Code, on the Swiss Criminal Code and on the Federal Data Protection Act. Matthias Schwaibold has also contributed to various commentaries on employment law. He is regularly invited to lecture at workshops of the Universities of St. Gallen, Lucerne and Fribourg.

Preferred areas of practice

Matthias Schwaibold’s preferred areas of practice are media law, press law, advertising law, intellectual property rights as well as specific aspects of criminal law and business law. He offers comprehensive legal advice to media companies and media professionals, including litigation, an activity which he does with much enthusiasm.
